    • Are You Reading Along With Me?!

Posted at 10:07 pm by thesweetandsassybookcritic, on March 18, 2019

Hi everyone! How many of you are reading along with me? I’m about three fourths of the way through Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-Free Plan For Embracing and Achieving Your Goals by Rachel Hollis. If you are reading this one with me please let me know what you think of it so far! I plan to finish it tomorrow before posting my review on Wednesday. When I added this book to the poll for an upcoming review it wasn’t a New York Times Bestseller yet, but sure enough, as I predicted, it hit number one on the list almost immediately after it was released! A couple things I’ve learned about Rachel Hollis, is A– she is now super famous and B– she is taking advantage of any avenue within her reach to maximize her exposure and gain profit. Hollis has a tattoo that says “mogul” on her arm…I am pretty sure this isn’t the last we will be seeing of Rachel Hollis. I won’t give away my thoughts on the book just yet— all I will say, is if you have read her first nonfiction book, Girl, Wash Your Face, then you are probably okay without reading this sequel. It covers a lot of the same information…more on that Wednesday.

For now, I wanted to remind everyone that the next book up for review is The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides. This book is receiving a ton of buzz! Apparently it’s pretty terrifying— yikes, I’m nervous!! I typically read nonfiction but threw this fictional psychological thriller on the poll to spice things up a bit. If you are into this kind of book— then please read along with me! I’ll list a link below so you can purchase it through my Amazon affiliate account. Happy reading!!

      hugs,

      danielle

And, if you’re feeling like you really want to get in the Rachel Hollis spirit then I highly recommend purchasing a gratitude journal—Hollis urges everyone to invest in one and to use it at the beginning of each day. I must say, as I near the halfway mark— I am thoroughly enjoying it. What a wonderful book! It is jam packed with information! I have found that in order to fully absorb and retain the material— this book must be read in an environment free of all distractions, so there is ample opportunity to focus solely on the content. Judith Grisel doesn’t waste any time hemming and hawing before getting to the point— her writing style is direct, concise and clear. And, wow, have I taken a lot of notes. I can’t wait to share all the great information I’m learning. For those of you who are reading along please share your thoughts below, or if you have any questions— ask away!

    • We Have a Winner!

Posted at 5:22 pm by thesweetandsassybookcritic, on March 7, 2019

The poll is closed and you guys have spoken! The winning book that I will be reviewing next is Never Enough: The Neuroscience and Experience of Addiction by Judith Grisel. Thank you to everyone who participated by submitting a vote— I was so happy to see how much interest the poll received! Thank you so much! I want to make sure the books I’m reviewing are covering subject matter that interests all of you. With that said, each of the four books received several votes so I decided that I will read them in the order they ranked. The book that came in second is Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals by Rachel Hollis, the book that came in third is the psychological thriller The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, and last but not least Women Rowing North: Navigating Life’s Currents and Flourishing as We Age by Mary Pipher came in fourth. I will review each book in that order over the next four weeks. Please read along with me!

Also, I thought I’d do something a little different today and show you guys some of the fun gear I use for reading/writing. My favorite things by far are pretty journals, and I am so picky about which journals I use. I need them to be able to fully open and not fall apart because they get so much use! I love the brand Natural Life, and this is one of their journals that I’m obsessed with, it’s the Natural Life Floral “So Many Beautiful Reasons” journal— I have four different Natural Life journals, all with various inspirational sayings on the cover. Another journal that I absolutely adore is the She Believed She Could So She Did journal— it’s so pretty! There is also an adorable matching beaded bookmark you can get too. This journal is also beautiful — Nevertheless She Persisted journal, I love the saying on the front! And, if you want something pretty to drink your coffee or tea from while you read or write, what about this inspirational gold mug? I collect so many mugs you guys! They just make me feel special. And, if you prefer to take your coffee with you on the go they have basically a replica of the mug above but it’s a travel thermos! Also, if that’s not enough reading/writing swag for you then check out my favorite pens, they are so cute— this set of six has a different motivational phrase on each pen and they are all a different color, I love these and they work great! If you decide to get any of these things be sure to let me know how they work for you!

      hugs, danielle

      Books in the running!

Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals by Rachel Hollis—- release date March 5, 2019 (today!!). Now, technically this one isn’t a NYT Bestseller yet, but we all know it will be, I give it about a week. What is it about? This book is in the nonfiction: self help genre, and it’s basically a sequel to her book Girl, Wash Your Face that was released last year—and that received CRAZY success mind you. I reviewed it here… So, this one is about instilling confidence in women and motivating them so they can reach their full potential. If you would like me to read this one next vote for it below!

Never Enough: The Neuroscience and Experience of Addiction by Judith Grisel—release date February 19, 2019. Time spent on the NYT Bestseller list? It’s NEW on the list this week (the March 10, 2019 list). What is it about? It’s a nonfiction book written by a behavior neuroscientist and recovered drug addict. This book explains how the process of addiction works and the best way for others to help addicts reach recovery. Let me know if you’d like me to review it next by voting below!

Women Rowing North: Navigating Life’s Currents and Flourishing as we Age by Mary Pipher— release date January 15, 2019. Time spent on the NYT Bestseller list? Six weeks! It hit the February 3, 2019 list. What is it about? Well, women of course! It is nonfiction and is described to be meant for all types of women and to address the similar life experiences we all share— regardless of age. It is rumored to be most ideal for women over 50, but I don’t care, I still want to read it! If this one peaks your interest the most, vote for it below!

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides— release date February 7, 2019. Time spent on the NYT Bestseller list? Three weeks! It hit the February 24, 2019 list. What is it about? This book is a fictional psychological thriller about a wife who commits violence against her husband and a therapist who is consumed with unraveling the story. Yikes!! Sounds creepy! But I bet it is suspenseful in the kind of way any good page turner is— I’m sure I’ll be able to finish this one in an afternoon. Into this kind of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat? If so, vote for me to read it next below!

If you’d like to purchase any of the books I mentioned above you can do so through my Amazon affiliate link below!

    • Read Along With Me!

Posted at 8:29 pm by thesweetandsassybookcritic, on March 3, 2019

Hi guys! Is anyone reading along with me? Right now I’m about halfway through Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive by Stephanie Land. You can purchase it below if you want to catch up! I don’t want to spoil how I’m feeling about it just yet…I’ll just say it is interesting…To give you a little background information, even though it’s identified as a social science book…it’s really more of a memoir— written by Land about her life as a maid where she struggled to make ends meet and provide for her daughter. It hit the New York Times Bestseller list for the first time on February 10, 2019, and has maintained its status ever since. There is a lot of buzz going around about the book, some people are saying they hate it, while others are completely in love. I’m curious to hear what you guys think! Please let me know and feel free to suggest any books you’d like me to add to my list for future review!

      hugs, danielle
